Taking relevant notes for your finance essay is a major part of successful research. You may encounter vast amounts of information from many sources as you go along with your research—you must know to select important facts to include and how to record the information accurately. It must also be written in a more organised manner so you will be able to find it easily once you begin writing your finance essay.

There are various ways you can write your notes. A possible option is to create a customised system that works best for you. This will make the task much easier to accomplish and organise in the future. In taking down notes, you can also easily find the necessary information you need to include in your referencing.

Before writing your notes, you must be able to evaluate the information you have just read to make sure that the notes you are about to make are relevant. At this stage, you must also start paraphrasing the information you have gathered—this prevents you from committing plagiarism later on. If you have a personal reaction or comment that you want to include in your notes, make it known—this will also help you interpret the sources that you have gathered in your own logical processes.

In some cases, you may want to take a direct quotation from a certain source that you have found. Be very intelligent in the selection of quotations you want to include in your essay, though. Choose quotations if they make a valid contribution to your finance essay. You can also choose quotations when the author’s words are particularly striking, when you want to directly credit or acknowledge the author for the concept or when you want to make an impression that you are referring to an expert’s knowledge or opinion about the subject discussed.
